Wings Over Germany: Allied Bombing of World War II by Ed Gordon

January 18, 2025 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

British and American strategic bombing of Germany’s controversial results are still argued about today. It produced some of the highest casualty rates of World War II. In this program historian Edward Gordon tells the story of the gallant Allied airmen who, by laying down their lives, helped shorten the war in Europe.

The Allied bombing campaign in Europe clearly established the central role of aviation in modern warfare. It had both negative and positive consequences. It led to unprecedented large-scale civilian casualties. On the other hand, it spurred the development of technologies that became the foundation of modern aviation.

Learn how Churchill, “Bomber Harris,” Hap Arnold, Hermann Göring, Adolf Galland and others influenced the outcomes of this titanic battle. See the aircraft that played key roles in this conflict including the B-17, Focke-Wulf, B-24, Lancaster, Mustang, and Thunderbolt.
Presenter: Dr. Edward Gordon
