Operation Downfall was the codename for the Allied plan for the invasion of Japan near the end of World War Two. The proposed operation was abandoned when Japan surrendered following the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The operation was set to begin in November 1945. if Downfall had taken place, it would have been the largest amphibious operation in history. Depending on the degree to which Japanese civilians would have resisted the invasion, estimates ran up to the millions of Allied casualties. Come and learn about the operation that was thankfully never to be. Presented by Blaine Mack.
