Fieseler 156 Storch: The Nazi\’s Answer to Short Take Off and Landing

The Storch was deployed in all European and North American theaters of World War Two. This includes its use in the 1943 rescue of deposed Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, and its inglorious role as the victim of the last dog fight on the Western Front.  This aircraft was so valued that during the war, a number of “Störche” were captured by Allies including one that became the personal aircraft of Field Marshal Montgomery.
